LIFEGUARD TRAINING HEADQUARTERS – Your Center for Life Guard Training

Nationally Recognized, CMAHC-Aligned Training

American Aquatics and Safety Training is a nationally recognized training and certification provider whose curriculum is systematically reviewed against current standards from the Council for the Model Aquatic Health Code (CMAHC).
Waterfront Lifeguard Training builds directly on your existing Lifeguarding certification — it does not replace it. The pool-based rescue and surveillance skills you already hold form the foundation this course extends into open water.

Core Curriculum

Open water introduces variables a pool never has — moving water, changing visibility, and much larger areas to cover. This course is built around those differences.

Open-Water Rescue Techniques

Skills You'll Master

Beyond rescue technique, waterfront lifeguarding requires coordination and hazard awareness a single-lifeguard pool setting doesn’t demand.

Spinal Injury Management in Open Water

Communication & Team Coverage

Environmental Hazard Awareness

Requirements for Waterfront Lifeguard Training

Because this is an add-on to an existing lifeguard credential, requirements are stricter than a first-time certification.

How It Works

Nationally Recognized Waterfront Certification

Upon successful completion, you receive a Waterfront Lifeguard certification from American Aquatics and Safety Training, valid for two years alongside your base Lifeguarding certification.
Because employer and municipal requirements vary by beach and department, always confirm with your intended employer that this certification meets their specific hiring criteria.

Where Waterfront Certification Takes You

Waterfront certification opens up roles a pool-only credential doesn’t qualify you for.

Frequently Asked Questions About Waterfront Lifeguard Training

Do I need a lifeguard certification before taking Waterfront training?

Yes. Waterfront Lifeguard Training is an add-on course — you must hold a current, valid Lifeguarding certification before enrolling. This course extends your existing skills into open water rather than teaching lifeguarding from scratch.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old for waterfront/beach certification, one year older than the minimum for pool-only Lifeguarding certification.
The course covers open-water conditions like rip currents, surf, and tidal changes, along with open-water rescue technique, spinal injury management in moving water, and team communication across a beach or waterfront area.
Waterfront Lifeguard certification through American Aquatics and Safety Training is valid for two years, aligned with your base Lifeguarding certification.
